John Wesley
Principal Founder and Organizer of Methodism

John Wesley, along with his brother Charles, was the primary founder of the Methodist movement in England in the 1700s. A tireless servant of the Lord, John Wesley often preached in fields two or three times a day, traveling from town to town. Though an Anglican priest until the day he died, Wesley adopted field preaching when he became largely unwelcome in the respectable pulpits of his day. Nevertheless, historians generally credit the Methodist revival movement with saving England from a bloody revolution similar to that which France experienced. Wesley's influence on evangelical Christianity down to today is incalculable.

A special emphasis of Wesley's preaching and teaching was Christian Perfection, though he was not a systematic theologian. For anyone seeking to understand Wesleyan theology, his classic exposition of this theme, _A Plain Account of Christian Perfection_ is a must read.
